Everhouse Studio recently had the opportunity to help the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) convey a very important message using the power of visual communication.
Education remains core to the success of the U.S. economy. But a misalignment has developed between education and the needs of today’s workforce. During our early conversations with WTCS, a consortium representing 13 technical schools in Wisconsin, this fact became abundantly clear when they revealed a very telling ratio to us that would become a basis for our message: 1:2:7
1:2:7 means that for every occupation that requires a master’s degree or more, two professional jobs require a university degree, and over half a dozen jobs require a 1-year certificate or 2-year degree. However, a perceived “college for all” philosophy exists, where parents and counselors continue to encourage students that the 4-year degree guarantees future job security and financial prosperity.
Our challenge was this: How to both acknowledge these stigmas exist, and essentially “walk them out of the room” in a subtle manner?
As always, it starts with a meaningful narrative to give the story clear context. Then comes the visual: making the message simple and memorable. The final product carried quite the impact. Check out the animation: https://vimeo.com/123852224
